Additional grant

If you have reduced functional ability and are unable to work beside your studies, you may be eligible for an additional grant. You might also apply for additional grant in the summer on a separate form.

The grant is NOK 4,280 per month, or NOK 47,080 for an entire academic year if you have support for eleven months. If you are studying part time, the grant is based on the number of credits you will be taking.

In order to be entitled to the grant, you must be able to study but unable to work besides your studies, because this will have a negative impact on your academic progress. A physician or specialist must confirm this in the application.

You may not have any salaried employment at all as long as you receive the additional grant. If you are doing voluntary or unpaid work beside your studies, you can still receive the grant.

Grants and loans in summer

If you are unable to have a summer job because you have reduced functional ability, you may be entitled to grants and loans for twelve months.

This means that you receive basic support and grants according to the normal rates during summer as well, even if you are not studying then. You may also receive the additional grant due to reduced functional ability in the summer.

Use a separate form to apply for grants and loans in the summer

In order to be entitled to grants and loans in the summer, you must have a disability the prevents you from holding or acquiring a summer job. A physician or specialist must confirm this in the application.

You may not have any salaried employment at all in the summer if you receive summer support, and you have yo continue your education the following autumn. You may not receive summer support after you have finished your education.

Have you been delayed due to reduced functional ability?

If the teaching environment or study situation is not adapted to your reduced functional ability, you may in certain cases receive the basic support as a grant while you make up the delay.

If you can prove that your education has been delayed because the educational institution has failed adapt teaching for you, you do not lose the right to grants and loans, even if you are delayed in excess of 60 study credits. You will also receive the basic support as a grant for the period you spend making up the delay.

Ordinarily you may only receive loans and grants for a total of eight years. However, if you are delayed due to disability, you may receive loans and grants for more than eight years.
