Student with children
If you have children, you may be entitled to extra loans and grants. The main rule is that the children are below the age of 16 and that they live with you at least 40 per cent of the time.
Extra loans and grants are in addition to the basic support, which is the loan all students receive. You may thus receive basic support, child grant and additional loan at the same time.
You may receive a child grant for as long as you are a student and are entitled to loans and grants from Lånekassen, up to the year in which the child reaches the age of 16. If both parents are students, both may receive a child grant and additional loan at the same time.
How to apply
There is no separate application for these loans and grants. When you apply for a normal grant and loan, Lånekassen automatically considers whether you may be eligible for a child grant. However, you must choose yourself whether you also want to apply for an additional loan.
