The deadline for responding has expired

Those who did not respond within the deadline will receive an automatic decision from us stating that they will not have NOK 10,400 of the loan converted to a grant.

Converting coronavirus loans to grants

Everyone who received an additional coronavirus loan from Lånekassen during the spring of 2021 was given the opportunity to have NOK 10,400 of the loan converted to a grant. The deadline for submitting documentation was 13 March 2022.

On this page is the information for those who were asked to document a drop in income from employment.

You must provide documentation showing that you experienced a drop in income

Only pupils and students who actually experienced a drop in income from employment as a result of the coronavirus situation will be eligible for the conversion.

Lånekassen therefore asks all pupils and students who received an additional coronavirus loan during the spring of 2021 to provide documentation showing that they experienced a drop in income from employment for all or parts of the period between 16 June 2020 and 15 June 2021.

The deadline for submission of documentation is 13 March 2022

Log in to lanekassen.no to answer the question of whether you experienced a drop in income from employment and to submit documentation. If your documentation is accepted, NOK 10,400 of the loan will be converted to a grant during the spring of 2022. This means that your debt will be reduced.

No drop in income after all

If you received the loan but did not experience any drop in income after all, you still need to respond to the question on Dine sider.

If you did not experience a drop in income after all, NOK 10,400 of the additional loan cannot be converted to a grant. The entire additional loan will be added to your student loan, which must be repaid after you complete your education.

Send documentation

Documentation we can accept

Documentation must show a drop in income from employment.

In order for NOK 10,400 to be converted to a grant, you need to submit documentation that shows that both of the following conditions apply to you:

  • You experienced a drop in income from employment during the period from 16 June 2020 to 15 June 2021
  • The coronavirus situation was the cause of the drop in income

Capital income is not considered income from employment

By “income from employment”, we refer to ordinary wages or income from freelance assignments and similar. Capital income such as interest income, rental income and returns on shares are not considered income from employment.

Any confirmations should be signed

If you have confirmation from an employer/client, this must include the employer/client’s contact details and should also be signed. This means that payslips, for example, are not considered adequate documentation. Read the information about documentation from spring 2021.

You must also have been in receipt of support at the time of experiencing the drop in income in order to be eligible for conversion to a grant. However, you do not need to document this as we will check it ourselves.

Examples of documentation we can accept

We can accept documentation other than the documentation mentioned in our examples. The important factor is that the documentation clearly shows that you had less income for all or parts of the period in question and that the coronavirus situation was the cause.

Submit a confirmation from your employer showing the date on which you were furloughed or laid off and that the coronavirus situation was the reason.

Submit a confirmation from the employer showing the date on which you should have started the job and that the coronavirus situation was the reason you were unable to start.

Submit a confirmation from your employer showing the period during which you worked less and that the coronavirus situation was the reason. The confirmation should also specify how much you would normally have worked.

If you were self-employed, you can, for example, submit a confirmation from your regular clients showing that you received fewer assignments during this period and that the coronavirus situation was the cause.

Submit a declaration explaining your situation. Also submit documentation to support your self-declaration.
